Liver Funtion Test(LFT)
A Liver Function Test (LFT) is a group of blood tests used to check how well your liver is working. These tests measure liver enzymes, proteins, and bilirubin levels in the blood to detect liver damage, infection, inflammation, or disease. The liver plays a vital role in digestion, metabolism, detoxification, and protein production. LFT helps doctors assess liver health and diagnose liver-related conditions at an early stage.
Preparation For Liver Test:Fasting for 8–10 hours may be advised , Avoid alcohol before the test

What is Included in a Liver Function Test?
Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT / SGPT)
Indicates liver cell damage
High levels suggest liver inflammation or injury
Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST / SGOT)
Found in liver and muscles
Elevated levels may indicate liver or muscle damage
Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)
Linked to bile duct health
Increased levels may indicate bile duct blockage or liver disease
Bilirubin (Total, Direct & Indirect)
Formed from breakdown of red blood cells
High bilirubin causes jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes)
Total Protein
Measures proteins made by the liver
Albumin
Important protein produced by the liver
Low levels indicate chronic liver disease or poor nutrition
Globulin & A/G Ratio
Helps evaluate immune and liver function
